چکیده
In this paper, we present a comprehensive study of the monotonicity and log-concavity of the generalized Marcum and Nuttall -functions. More precisely, a simple probabilistic method is first given to prove the monotonicity of these two functions. Then, the log-concavity of the generalized Marcum -function and its deformations is established with respect to each of the three parameters. Since the Nuttall -function has similar probabilistic interpretations as the generalized Marcum -function, we deduce the log-concavity of the Nuttall -function. By exploiting the log-concavity of these two functions, we propose new tight lower and upper bounds for the generalized Marcum and Nuttall -functions. Our proposed bounds are much tighter than the existing bounds in the literature in most of the cases. The relative errors of our proposed bounds converge to as . The numerical results show that the absolute relative errors of the proposed bounds are less than 5% in most of the cases. The proposed bounds can be effectively applied to the outage probability analysis of interference-limited systems such as cognitive radio and wireless sensor network, in the study of error performance of various wireless communication systems operating over fading channels and extracting the log-likelihood ratio for differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals.

متن کاملOn the Monotonicity of the Generalized Marcum and Nuttall Q-Functions
Monotonicity criteria are established for the generalized Marcum Q-function, QM (α, β), the standard Nuttall Qfunction, QM,N (α, β), and the normalized Nuttall Q-function, QM,N (α, β), with respect to their real order indices M,N . Besides, closed-form expressions are derived for the computation of the standard and normalized Nuttall Q-functions for the case when M,N are odd multiples of 0.5 an...
متن کاملNew bounds for the generalized Marcum Q-function
In this paper, we study the generalized Marcum -function where and . Our aim is to extend the results of Corazza and Ferrari (IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, vol. 48, pp. 3003–3008, 2002) to the generalized Marcum -function in order to deduce some new tight lower and upper bounds. The key tools in our proofs are some monotonicity properties of certain functions involving the modified Bessel function o...
متن کاملThe Sugeno fuzzy integral of concave functions
The fuzzy integrals are a kind of fuzzy measures acting on fuzzy sets. They can be viewed as an average membershipvalue of fuzzy sets. The value of the fuzzy integral in a decision making environment where uncertainty is presenthas been well established. Most of the integral inequalities studied in the fuzzy integration context normally considerconditions such as monotonicity or comonotonicity....
متن کاملOn Log-concavity of the Generalized Marcum Q Function
It is shown that, if ν ≥ 1/2 then the generalized Marcum Q function Qν(a, b) is log-concave in b ∈ [0,∞). This proves a conjecture of Sun, Baricz and Zhou (2010). We also point out relevant results in the statistics literature.
